I make Grandma’s Dräppelchen like the ones from the Christmas market twice a week!

450 g flour
1 packet of yeast (dry yeast)
250 ml warm milk
5 tbsp sugar
1 tsp oil
Powdered sugar for dusting
Oil for frying
Flour for rolling out

Preparation

First, stir the yeast, sugar, and oil into the warm milk.

Then pour everything into the flour. Knead the dough thoroughly.

Place in a pot, cover with a cloth and lid, and let it rest in a warm place for about 60-70 minutes.

Next, knead the dough thoroughly again and roll it out on a thin layer of flour to about 2 mm thick. Then cut into 2 cm x 2 cm squares.

Deep-fry the pieces in hot oil in batches until golden brown.

Turn frequently and do not let them get too brown, otherwise they will become too dry and hollow inside.

After removing, sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Serve while still warm.
